Hip Resurfacing Surgery

"Hip resurfacing replaces only the damaged arthritic surface by capping the femoral head with a metal prosthesis and inserting a matching cup into the acetabulum-preserving bone and retaining natural hip mechanics. It’s best suited for younger, active individuals with strong bone stock (typically males aged <60) and may simplify future revision surgery. Long-term outcomes are excellent among carefully selected patients: US data show 95.1% implant survival at 15 years; male patients with head sizes ≥48 mm had 99% survival at 10 years. Studies report 94–96% survivorship and high functional scores lasting over a decade. Dislocation rates are very low, and functional recovery is rapid, often allowing return to high activity levels."
